Recording does not start.
Check iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Drive Moments. Enable appropriate access and Precise Location for usable GPS readings. Reception is often better outdoors.
Enable background recording.
Open Cockpit and choose Enable background recording. Confirm the explanation and allow the appropriate location access in iOS. Low Power Mode or weak reception can affect recording.
Export or delete data.
Settings contains CSV/JSON export, PDF reports, backup/restore and deletion controls. Create and save a backup before reinstalling. Use Create backup for a complete, restorable copy of drives, routes, measurements and vehicles. Restore backup shows a preview and adds missing entries without overwriting existing records. It skips duplicates and rejects unsupported files. App preferences are not included. Ordinary CSV/JSON exports are not restorable backups.
A result is not comparable.
Review the data-quality reasons. Weak reception, too few samples or long gaps can exclude a result from personal-best comparisons. Results are estimates.
Use Apple Shortcuts.
Find Drive Moments in Apple Shortcuts and choose Start Drive Moments trip or Stop Drive Moments trip. Both open the app. Complete safety and location setup in Cockpit first. Start resumes a paused drive and does not pause an already running recording. This does not add a CarPlay screen or automatic trip detection.
Choose a vehicle.
Select a vehicle in Cockpit before starting. The saved drive keeps its vehicle name if you later rename or remove the profile. You can change the assignment in the drive’s Edit screen and filter drives by vehicle in Logbook.
A previous drive was interrupted.
On the next launch, the app attempts to preserve saved samples and close the drive with an interruption note. Time while the app was closed is not added as driving time.
Record video with a live cockpit.
While parked, enable Video in the cockpit, allow camera access and choose an available quality under Video settings. The one Record button starts your GPS drive and optional video. A small map stays visible beside the live camera. Switch Analog Touring and Digital Track at any time, or hide the instruments. Pausing ends the current video segment; resuming starts another under the same drive. Open the saved drive in Logbook to play its clips, scrub, skip 10 seconds, choose a supported speed from 0.25× to 8×, and change or hide the cockpit. Prepare and share an export with the recorded design changes or a fixed design, and with or without cockpit and recorded sound. The original stays unchanged; playback speed does not alter export speed. Orient your device before recording. Sound starts on and needs microphone permission. Up to 4K/60 requires a matching camera format. Locking, backgrounding or a camera/audio interruption ends the video segment; GPS follows its own recording permissions. On returning, pause and resume the drive to start another clip. Clips remain local and outside iCloud and backups. Delete clips individually or with the drive; merging drives keeps separate clips under the combined entry. Earlier unlinked videos remain in Logbook → Videos on this device. Import your own transparent 16:9 PNG under 8 MB or a compatible cockpit package in Settings → Cockpit artwork. You can use your design live, during playback and when exporting. Use artwork you have permission to use.
Set up private iCloud sync.
On each device, sign in to the same Apple Account and enable iCloud in Drive Moments Settings after reviewing the explanation. Finished entries and selected photos sync; active recordings stay local. Offline edits wait for connection. Check iCloud storage if sync reports an error. Turning sync off does not delete existing cloud records. Sync is not a backup.
Add stories, photos and tours.
Open a saved drive and edit its moment. Add a story, tags and up to six photos using the system photo picker. Favorite drives or group them into tours. Logbook offers list, calendar and map views plus a recap of your last 30 days; Pro adds monthly, yearly and all-time recaps and complete tour albums.
Protect the app.
Enable app protection in Settings to use Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode. Recording continues behind the locked app. Drive Moments never receives your biometric data.
Purchase and devices
Drive Moments is free to download. GPS journaling, video recording, playback and both cockpit styles are included. Export three new videos per UTC calendar month per device; re-exporting those clips is free and failed exports do not count. Optional Drive Moments Pro unlocks unlimited video exports, monthly, yearly and all-time recaps and complete tour albums for US $9.99 once in the US, with no subscription. Every saved drive stays free to open, play back and back up. Apple shows local prices. Restore purchases from Settings using the same Apple Account. Existing paid-app customers retain their access. Requires iOS or iPadOS 26.1 or later.
Use performance measurements only in a safe, lawful environment. The app is not an emergency or navigation service.
