He hums as he waits by the clock on the wall: “When will it come, the best time of all?”

The big hand climbs up and the small hand comes too. Then the clock shows 11:11, and the magic is due.

“Knock, knock, knock!” calls Knocko. “Three knocks on the wood, then whisper a wish, as quiet as you could.”

Mia knocks softly, and Ben knocks out loud. Their wishes rise up like stars from a cloud.

Not every wish comes true on the day. “But wishes,” says Knocko, “will find their own way.”

And if you miss one, that’s perfectly fine. “Tomorrow,” smiles Knocko, “the clock will still shine.”

At 10:10 at night, when the stars are in sight, Knocko yawns, “Sleep well. I’ll knock for you tonight.”
