Piecepass / Privacy
Privacy policy
Updated 1 November 2026. This policy covers the Piecepass app. For hosting and analytics on these web pages, see the website privacy policy.

2. No account, no server for your content
Piecepass needs no account. Your puzzles, photos, packs, results, favorites, saved progress and settings are stored only on your device. EGOHEAD WORKS does not run a server that receives your photos, puzzles or results. There is no public feed and no chat inside the app.
3. Photos
When you create a puzzle, the system photo picker gives the app only the photo you select. The app reduces it to puzzle size and stores it in the app's own storage. Deleting the puzzle in the app also deletes this copy. The app works out the background colors from the picture on your device; nothing is sent for this.
When you tap "Save as photo" after solving, or "Save Image" or "Save Video" in the share sheet, iOS asks once whether Piecepass may add pictures to your photos. The app only gets permission to add, it cannot see your photo library.
4. Passing puzzles on
You decide what to share and with whom, using the iOS share sheet and an app of your choice, such as Messages or WhatsApp. That app and its provider then process what you send under their own terms.
- Puzzle files (
.piecepass,.piecepasspack) contain the picture, title, creator name and origin you entered, the puzzle's start order and size, and your result as the mark to beat: moves, time, hints, your sequence of moves with their timing and, if you entered it, your first name. - Links to
egoheadworks.com/piecepass/play/are used for works from the app's library and for packs of them. Your result (moves, time, hints), your sequence of moves with their timing, so friends can race your "ghost", and the pack title stand after the "#" in the link. Your first name is never part of a link. Browsers never send that part to our web server, so it does not reach our server or its logs. Anyone who has the link can read it. When the link is opened in a browser, our web server receives the request for the page itself as described in the website privacy policy. - Deleting a puzzle in Piecepass does not recall files or links you have already sent.
5. Purchases
Apple handles the one-time Piecepass Pro purchase and gives the app verified transaction information to unlock or restore it. EGOHEAD WORKS does not receive your payment details.
6. Game Center
If you are signed in to Game Center on your device, Piecepass reports your best scores to a Game Center leaderboard and unlocks achievements. Apple provides Game Center under its own terms and privacy policy. You can sign out of Game Center in iOS Settings.
7. Usage statistics, only with your consent
After you solve your first puzzle, the app asks once whether you want to share usage statistics. Only if you choose "Allow" does the App Store version send them to Google Analytics for Firebase (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, and Google LLC, USA). Without your consent, collection stays switched off.
The statistics contain counts and fixed values only: a puzzle was started, solved, shared, received or answered, how many pieces it had and how long it took, whether the Pro offer was shown, closed or bought, plus device and app information that Firebase collects for analytics. They never contain your photos, titles, names or chat content. The app does not use the advertising identifier and does not track you across apps. Statistics are kept for two months.
Legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG). You can withdraw it at any time with the "Share usage statistics" switch in Settings (the gear at the top right of the library). Data may be transferred to the USA; Google LLC is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
8. Opening links in the app
So that links to egoheadworks.com/piecepass/play/ open in Piecepass, iOS fetches a small configuration file from our website through Apple's servers. This contains no personal data about you.
9. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Most data exists only on your device, so you can delete it yourself by deleting puzzles or the app. For questions, write to the address above. You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority, for example Die Sächsische Datenschutz- und Transparenzbeauftragte.
10. Changes
We update this policy when the app changes. The date at the top shows the current version.
